Hey, Tange! Congrats on the 8! Good for you.
Goddess, I have SEVERAL very very large family members who all tried the Atkins thing. Each and every one of them had the same result.... they shed lots of weight, and at a fairly fast speed (but a healthy speed). BUT, each and every one of them also gained it back PLUS much more than they originally weighed in the first place.
So, Atkins is pretty much just like all those other yo-yo dieters dreams diet, BUT unless you plan to eat like that the rest of your life, it's not gonna work in the long run.
Myself, I could NEVER do Atkins because I'm a carbohydrate junkie. I'm not a sweet's and cake type gal, but meat and potatoes. Mmmm, Mmmm, bread. lol. Not to mention, I'd have to give up beer on Atkins 'cause of all the carb's in beer. That's all I have to hear to let me know I won't try a diet. No beer? No way.

At the end of December, I was 5'10" and weighed 241. As of this morning, I weighed 217. This might work for you as well:
First two weeks - detox.
Whole fresh fruits and vegetables only (no canned or processed fruits)
Drink only water (8-10 12 oz. glasses per day)
No starches (processed sugar, bread, potatoes, white rice, tortillas etc.)
No meats of any kind, including cooking lard.
No fried foods
1/2 cup of oatmeal, tofu, or cooked brown rice for ONE meal a day (with vegetables)
Up to 4 egg whites per day.
Eliptical:
30-45 minutes per day, 4-5 times per week. I'm not sure on the distance, it averages between 1000 - 1200, which I assume is meters, I just use the preset programs that are either 30 or 45 minutes. Pulse rate program one day, resistance program the next.
Exercise ball:
Crunches 2-3 sets of 25 twice per day (morning/night works for me)
alternate between upper/lower body exercises each day, 2 sets each or about 20-25 minutes. (each ball comes with sheets with all the exercises)
Stretching:
Probably not as important, but I try to stretch for at least 15 minutes each morning, and before bed.
Weeks 3-5:
Same diet as before, except you can now add in:
2 whole eggs or 4 egg whites per day
OR
6 oz. fish, skinless chicken breast (not fried), or lean turkey or beef per day
and
1 oz. of cheese (1 & 1/2 slices) OR 12 oz. or 1% or skim milk per day
1 12 oz. can of diet soda per day
Exercise is pretty much the same, except you can begin to add in strength training (weights or machine), and increase the eliptical to 45-60 minutes per day.
Not sure what comes next, I haven't reached that part yet...but it seems to be working so far.
