| 2 new research projects for cealiacs(sp?)
there is currently 2 trials underway to help those poor buggers that are gluten intolerant. my mother is a cealiac, so she stays up to date, and according to her the 2 trials are excitting.
they are:
1) researchers are currently trilling an injection whereby they deliver hook worms into the patients system and get the patients to eat a slice of bread each day, so far it looks promising. they have based this reasearch on the fact that in todays age we live in an environment that is too sterile, and in the day when hook worms and other intestinal parasites where common food allergies wheren't a problem that they are today.
2) researchers are trialing a tablet that immunises you against the effects of gluten consumption.
on half of one percent of the population is a cealiac and and 15% of the population are wheat(gluten) intolerant.
So if a company can come up with a way of protecting the population from gluten consumption, they will have a potetion 900 million customers.... not bad really when alot of companies are happy with a 1-2% pop customer base.
