| In total pain and agony ...but was worth it
I bet very few will be able to say they got hurt in the way i did yesterday .
I have torn my ligaments on my left ankle very bad and need to see a doc today , maybe getting a cast . But the how did i do it is where the fun part comes in . I torn my ligaments catching a real life baby elephant :))
Hehehe i can now imagine your face as you read this as i saw the same expression on clients faces when i told them that yesterday .
Lemme explain i was at a client of mine who happens to be one of the best wildlife vet's here where i stay . He had a elephant calf about 2-3 years old that was caught in a snare . And he was helping it recover . Well anyhow he had to load the calf on a trailer to be taken to it's new home and i offered to help .
Man i bet you guys would give what to be in my shoes yesterday as my client was the vet the elephant didn't trust them much anymore , so when i held a orange to it , not knowing my smell it sort of trusted me more and came to eat the oranges out of my hands . But i have to say altho it was only a baby elephant it still weighs about 800 kg and still is a wild animal that can be deadly , you should have seen how it rushes the helpers wanting to crush them against the holding bauma poles . And as big as a elephant is you'd be so surprized at the amazing speed it can move to rush you .
Anyhow the container they wanted to put him in had like slits on the sides so i stuck my hand into the slit with the orange trying to lure the elephant into the container .....man oh man knowing he didn't want to go into the container but still wanting this juicy orange you should have seen how he
s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d his trunk out to try and reach this orange . Damn cute as hell .
Well after 3 hours battle we finally managed to get him into the container with the use of a winch and rope around his ass pulling him in , but as he went into the container the drugs to calm him down really started to kick in and he started to fall forward so i rushed to losen the rope on the winch and as i got the rope lose it whiplashed and hit me right of the trailer and i landed skew on my ankle and torn my ligaments .
So yeah that was my day yesterday and altho i'm now sitting in pain and agony with a ankle with torn ligaments , it was worth it cause being so close to a real wild african elephant and knowing i had part in helping it get better (even just a small part ) somehow makes it seem all worth it .
