| | | The Seven Deadly Sins
ok, i've been reading up on these, and i've gotta say i don't agree... (shocker, i know)
let's review the sins, shall we?
1. lust
2. gluttony
3. greed
4. sloth
5. wrath
6. envy
7. pride
ok, the first problem i have (or maybe i should use the word issue instead of problem) is that these are most commonly associated with the Bible, but there is no mention of them at all in the Christian Bible.
the next "issue" is that i break every one of these on a regular basis. i think all humans do, it is just natural. instead of looking at these in a negative light, how about a positive one instead?
your thoughts?

"My thoughts"
You should break them on a regular basis, after all you are human. Remember the Bible was wrote in Biblical times. Times when all Humans swore by what is written. But times change and they change all the time. We have to go with the changes or we get left behind.
I am not saying we should leave the Bible behind. No way. It was written and so many people still follow it (and fair play to those that do) But in a world that now changes with every second some have a different way of thinking. In real terms if we do not accept change we are fucked. We are outcasts. I feel that our beliefs are now pushed into a more private mainstream than those of a communal mainstream. And that is very sad.
To reiterate.
7. PRIDE....... Damn right you should be proud of something you have achieved that makes you grin from ear to ear. Not if it made someone grin from ear to ear. If it does not make you happy then it will not make anybody else happy. If it makes you smile? That is pride.
6. ENVY...... Yes it hurts when someone does better than you, that is envy. But if you are strong enough you can come up with something better that will over power their achievement. Pass the envy on. Everybody should be like a big cushion. Everything bounces off.
OK I will stop there for now. To finish, be proud of who you are and all you achieve. No one will hold as much pride for you as yourself.

We, (humans) do break all of them because we are human. I believe these can become deadly when taken to extreme!!!!
Well, I took an Anthropology class in college. I can't find my book right now, but I do remember this regarding religion:
Most of these sorts of "rules" or advice on what to avoid has evolved from societies viewing what has been good to provide for the ongoing of the society...what will promote things like "good health", healthy, stable children, what is needed to allow a culture to thrive and continue to exist. These seven "sins" if you want to call them that, tend, in excess, to counter the productivity of life, society and culture. That's prolly how it may have ended up with a "religious" tag or marker. I found this on the internet, maybe it will help:
"In the 19th century, cultural anthropology was dominated by an interest in cultural evolution; most anthropologists assumed that there was a simple distinction between “primitive” and “modern” religion and tried to provide accounts of how the former evolved into the latter. In the 20th century most anthropologists rejected this approach. Today the anthropology of religion reflects the influence of, or an engagement with, such theorists as Karl Marx, Sigmund Freud, Émile Durkheim, and Max Weber. They are especially concerned with how religious beliefs and practices may reflect political or economic forces; or the social functions of religious beliefs and practices." Wikipedia: Anthropology of Religion.
