I was a nasty 275 lbs of muck and yuck and 5'8" i dont need to tell you how nasty that was. I feel for you and understand exactly what your trying to do. This is what worked for me.....as I am now 5'8", 225,lbs,and and pretty damn lean.
#1 Mindset. If you don't have the proper mindset and a visual in your head it will never work. On those same lines you have to have more than 100 percent motivation.
#2 Cut out the garbage foods. I cut out all the super refined(ie- bisquick, hamburger helper, anything basically that turns the average person lazy and cuts out the prep work in the kitchen) type shit almost totally. Those super refined foods and convience mixes you buy are chock full of sugar and sodium and other junk that you would'nt think would be in there. I do however have a go crazy day once a week. Normally on Saturday for hockey night.Thats when I eat pizza or burgers and kill a few beers. Keeps you sane that way. Replace all the garbage with what we all know is good and better for you.
#3 Hit the gym. However going to much ,I have found, is just as detrimental as hardly going at all. I go 3-5 days a week. Only 2.5 of those days do I do anything really strenuous. Even for ladies the key to hitting that metabolism to the stratosphere is building muscle. the more muscle you have the more calories/fat you burn while your resting even. However I know that ladies don't like the whole muscle building thing.(as i have heard anyway) So more cardio type things are on order for you.
#4 Time. Its different for everyone. I had success in rapid fashion. Genetics played a role in that for me and also just my body type and the goals I had and still have are different than yours for example. Nothing happened overnight for sure, and anyone promising super fast results with minmal(sp) work is either a liar or is about to put you on pills or powders or something else that will shave years off your life.
#5 In the end or when your progressing down the road you wanna go down and you start looking, and best of all, FEELING a HELL OF ALOT BETTER, not only physically but espically mentally, all the pain and sweat is so worth it.

(ok, well thats my take anyway. I dont wanna come off as I know everything ,cause thats for sure not the case. I am just telling you what worked for me. Im sorry if its a lil long winded)
